Is failing the key to success?
Michael Jordan missed more than 9,000 shots in his career. He has lost almost 300 games and 26 times he was trusted to take the game’s winning shot and missed. He has failed over and over in his life and he believes that’s why he succeeds. So what’s your approach to failure?
‘100% of the shots you don’t take miss the net’ – Wayne Gretzky
You always hear about entrepreneur’s success stories but what about the countless times they failed in order to reach their success? The real key to success is your mindset about failing, because if you are going to be successful, you are probably going to fail a few times to get there. So learn to embrace failure, not fear it. Fail fast fast and fail forward and you’ll probably find yourself on the path to success.
Take Thomas Edison’s approach to failure, and the perseverance he had while inventing the light bulb;
‘I have not failed, I’ve just found 10,000 ways that won’t work’ – Thomas Edison
Steven Spielberg was rejected from film school 3 times before finally getting his break;
‘All good ideas start as bad ideas. That’s why it takes so long.’ – Steven Spielberg
And what about one of the most successful entrepreneurs of all time, Henry Ford, who started two automotive companies that failed before he gained success with Ford Motor Company;
‘Failure is simply the opportunity to begin again, this time more intelligently.’ – Henry Ford
So success is about taking action, failing fast and failing forward and learning from your failures.
Do you have an example of where failing helped lead you to success? We’d love for you to share.
